It’s hard not to. Little flying robots with cameras on them. They go fast as hell, are relatively inexpensive, and you can get a ton of mileage out of them.

I wanted to share my enthusiasm of that with you, they’re a ton of fun and very accessible.

Drone Racing

There are a ton of hobbyist leagues out there to get into drone racing and they are all awesome.
The Mighty Drones and Minnesota FPV Quad Racing are too accessible groups if you’re looking to dip your toe in the scene. Additionally, Arizona and Florida have huge drone racing leagues that are trying to gain traction akin to F1.

Photography

Everyone has seen some gorgeous building, real estate, wedding photography with Drones. The fact is that the sky is the limit, cameras have gotten very cheap, drones have also become very cheap; so an easy way to add a 3rd dimension to your photography repertoire is with drones.

Sat Imaging

Some drones with the proper modifications can take IR and Thermal photography. Commercially this is used for things like pest control and major farming. However, I’ve seen jury rigged versions used in commercial hunting and the like.

Art

Intel has been doing sky assemblies with Drones for a very long time; but Drones on an individual level can contribute to floats and parades as well as can be decorated to resemble kite flying and the like.

Urban Exploring

There are so many crevices, old buildings and bridges and just abandoned environments in any major city. Using the drone for investigative filmography can really scratch that curious itch for some places in the city.
